Emery paper, commonly known as sandpaper, is a type of abrasive paper or cloth that is used for grinding, smoothing, and polishing surfaces. It consists of abrasive particles, such as aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, garnet, or emery—glued to a paper or cloth backing. The grit size, which refers to the size of the abrasive particles, determines how coarse or fine the sandpaper is. Lower grit numbers indicate coarser sandpaper that removes more material, while higher numbers are for finer sandpaper used for smoothing or polishing. Sandpaper holds a wide range of applications across various industries.
