Agriculture and Mixed Farming

Agriculture is the science and art of cultivating plants and livestock. It is divided into Cultivation and Processing. Cultivation includes production of crops. Agro-processing industry is a subset of manufacturing that processes products derived from the agricultural sector. It also consists of breeding animals to produce food and other survival things.

India is the second largest populated country accounting for 18% of the total world population. With an increase in the population, the need for various agricultural products has increased significantly.

This rise has prompted the farmers to adopt enhanced technologies and methods in dairy, fisheries and livestock in order to meet the diversified food needs of the people. Additionally, more than 50% of India’s population is dependent on agricultural products which are further promoting the growth of the market.

In India, mixed farming combining crop and livestock activities has been a way of life since the dawn of civilization. It is widely realized that livestock production in the Indian agrarian economy, providing additional remuneration and employment opportunities to the small farmers and landless laborers families.
